TYPO3 CMS is a free, powerful and flexible web-based content management system (WCMS). In other words: you can maintain the content on your website yourself, even without technical knowledge.

TYPO3 is free software ("open source"). That means anyone – private individuals or businesses – can use it without having to pay license fees.

Because of its wide range of features, which we explain further below, TYPO3 is also referred to as an enterprise CMS. In fact, there are many reasons why TYPO3 is an ideal solution especially in the professional space (companies, NGOs, non-profits, etc.) and is preferable to other applications like WordPress, Drupal, or Joomla. The most important ones are:

  • a huge range of features (e.g. multisite management, multilingualism, workflow functions, search engine optimization) already ships with the core system and doesn't need to be added through third-party solutions or costly custom development. Besides significant cost savings, this means: more security and a simpler update process.
  • very extensive user management makes it possible to restrict editor access according to their role.
  • TYPO3 is very flexible. A website that starts small can grow very large without running into performance problems or losing clarity in the backend
  • the TYPO3 Association places particular emphasis on security. The CMS undergoes continuous security auditing. Vulnerabilities are fixed quickly and updates are provided. There's an official security team for this.
