Release policy & current status
The TYPO3 Association has decided on the following - here somewhat simplified - release strategy:
- A new LTS version is released every 1.5 years
- this is maintained for 1.5 years (i.e. fixing bugs of any kind)
- for another 1.5 years only security gaps are closed
- After 3 years of release, extended long-term support (ELTS) is offered at a charge. This guarantees security updates for a further 2 years.
On the TYPO3 website you can find a roadmap with exact timings for each release.
This results in the following situation for the year 2021
- The current version is TYPO3 v11(since 10/2021)
- TYPO3 v10 is in the "priority bugfixes" phase(i.e. closing security holes)
- the TYPO3 v9 is only possible with the paid ELTS(Extended Long Term Support)
The exact calculation of a TYPO3 update is almost impossible. The reason for this is the numerous extensions that almost every system has installed in addition to the core system. This often includes exotic extensions of which there is no compatible version in the TYPO3 Repository (TRE) or individually developed extensions.
In order to be able to present you with an approximate cost framework, we have compiled a price example for the update of the core system and important standard extensions below.
1. Core-Update
Core means the TYPO3 system without 3td party extensions. That is, with the functionality as it is delivered (including the so-called system extensions).
